Presidents MessagecFebruary 2011

Colleagues, welcome to another great year ahead for Chapter #248. I am thrilled and very much honored to be this yearfs president and am looking forward to the activities of the year. I first want to thank last yearfs President, Anthony Barlin, and Vice-President, Parmeet Kohli for their leadership this past year and their helpfulness in turning the gbusinessh over to this yearfs officers. A special thanks to Al Morelli for his continuous guidance and being always available as the chapter advisor.

We held our first Chapter Officers meeting on February 19 and established a centralized email where you may communicate with us and share your thoughts, ideas, and suggestions. Please feel free to do so by emailing us at OrangeCounty.IIE@gmail.com.

This past week was Engineers Week and I am looking forward to sharing some activities from such that I am close to. However, I am also interested in hearing what activities my fellow IEfs participated in. So feel free to share those, along with some photos if you have them, and we will make that available to all.

We look forward to meeting and/or hearing from each of you very soon!

Sincerely,

Alvin Mundo
President

Members vote to retain current name of Institute IIE election results are in, and IIE members have voted not to change the name of the association from the Institute of Industrial Engineers to the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers.

"The Board of Trustees and members of the Institute are to be commended for resolving this issue that has been debated for many years," said IIE Executive Director Don Greene. "With this vote, the members have affirmed the breadth of industrial engineering. Although our profession undoubtedly encompasses a systems approach, it isn't necessary to communicate the broad reach that IE has through our name alone. Instead, industrial engineers around the world express who we are and what we do through our accomplishments. Particularly in our current economy, organizations are looking to industrial engineers to positively impact productivity and efficiency. Now is the time for IEs to step forward and make a difference."
